FADE IN:
EXT. PARK -- DAY
Children are playing in the park. They are all running around
very active and noisy.
VICKY, six years old, is lying on the grass staring up at
the sky.
A SMART COUPLE, VICKY's ADOPTED PARENTS, are walking together
through the park.
They are watching VICKY.
HUSBAND
Vicky is so different from the
other children.
VICKY discovers a SNAIL beside her in the grass. She picks
it up and studies it on her hand.
WIFE
That's why we choose her.
EXT. FOREST -- DAY
Deep in the woods, VICKY is lost.
She is running and jumping as high as she can as if attempting
to fly out of the forest.
She falls over, and starts to cry.
She is encumbered by a MASSIVE SNAIL SHELL on her back.
She SCREAMS!
INT. HOUSE, VICKY'S BEDROOM -- NIGHT
VICKY SCREAMS and sits up awake.
Vicky's REAL MOTHER enters, and hugs Vicky to calm her down.
VICKY'S MOTHER
What's wrong honey, why are you
screaming? Was it a bad dream?

VICKY
I couldn't fly in the forest.
Not like before.
VICKY'S MOTHER
What do you mean? When before?
VICKY
When I was flying above you,
and choosing you.
VICKY'S MOTHER
Choosing me?
VICKY
But you didn't want.
VICKY'S MOTHER
Vicky, you're not making any
sense to me at all. What do you
mean I didn't want you? Of course
I wanted you.
VICKY
Because you were saying No! No!
No!
Vicky's Mother remembers:
EXT. PARK -- NIGHT
Vicky's Mother and a MAN are having sex on a park bench.
MAN
Is it ok to come inside?
VICKY'S MOTHER
No! No! No!
MAN
Oops! Too late.
She pushes him off.
VICKY'S MOTHER
Idiot! I told you no! What is
it with you men? Absolutely no
self discipline whatsoever.

INT. HOUSE, VICKY'S BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS
VICKY'S MOTHER
You're just being silly.
VICKY
It's the truth, you didn't want
after that either.
Vicky's Mother remembers:
INT. MEDICAL CENTER -- DAY
Vicky's Mother is having a consultation with her Doctor in
his Surgery.
DOCTOR
Well that's it I'm afraid, because
of your heart condition and the
kidney infection we can't do a
termination. It's just too
dangerous. I'm sorry.
Vicky's Mother is sobbing.
VICKY'S MOTHER
You just don't understand. I'm
telling you I don't want this
child. I have to get rid of it!
DOCTOR
You could always put up for
adoption. There are lots of
couples out there who, for
whatever reason can't have kids
of their own who would give their
right arm to adopt one, believe
me.
INT. HOUSE, VICKY'S BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS
VICKY
I'm not offended that you didn't
want me. That's fine. It's
just that you didn't do what you
were supposed to do.
Vicky remembers from before she was born:

INT. MANSION HOUSE -- DAY
The SMART COUPLE, Vicky's adopted parents to be, are sitting
in a room full of expensive children's toys.
HUSBAND
All this for nothing. We're
never going to hear the happy
sound of our child in this room.
WIFE
We tried everything. We even
changed the colour of the carpet,
different underwear. But nothing
worked.
HUSBAND
I know, I tried my secretary...
and my hairdresser.
WIFE
Your hairdresser? But he's a
guy!
HUSBAND
Never mind, it didn't work.
WIFE
I tried the gardener... and all
the neighbours.
HUSBAND
The gardener? You never told me
about him.
WIFE
Never mind, it didn't work anyway.
HUSBAND
The neighbours I can understand,
but the gardener?
WIFE
Well if neither of us can have a
child, there's only one thing
left to do.

HUSBAND
Adoption.
INT. HOUSE, VICKY'S BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS
VICKY
(sighing
regretfully)
Mum, why didn't you do it? It
was what the Doctor ordered.
Now we have to fix it.
VICKY'S MOTHER
Ok, now I'm scared.
VICKY
Why, because of her?
VICKY'S MOTHER
Who?
VICKY
The lady behind you.
VICKY'S MOTHER
What lady? Where? What are you
talking about?
The ANGEL OF DEATH in the form of a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN is sitting
in an armchair drinking a cup of tea.
The area of the room where the ANGEL OF DEATH is sitting
becomes brightly lit.
The ANGEL OF DEATH waves to Vicky, and Vicky waves back to
her.
VICKY
Don't worry Mum, she's still
drinking from her cup.
INT. HOUSE, KITCHEN -- DAY
Vicky's Mother is getting drunk on Vodka, smoking a cigarette.
The ANGEL OF DEATH is sitting in the background light,
drinking her tea.

EXT. HOUSE -- LATER
Vicky arrives home from school.
She finds a large bird's feather and picks it up.
INT. HOUSE, KITCHEN -- CONTINUOUS
Vicky's Mother pours a full glass of Vodka from the bottle.
The ANGEL OF DEATH takes her last sip of tea, turns the cup
over onto the saucer and reads the tea leaves.
Vicky's Mother downs the shot of vodka in one.
The ANGEL OF DEATH gets up from her chair, moves over to
Vicky's Mother, APPEARS in front of her, places her hand on
her left shoulder and KISSES her on the mouth.
Vicky's Mother collapses.
Vicky enters and finds her Mother lying on the floor.
The cup and saucer is on the table.
She lifts up the cup and examines the tea leaves on the
saucer.
VICKY
Hmm. Interesting.
Vicky holds the feather under her Mother's nose to check for
breath.
Vicky's Mother is dead.
Vicky fixes her Mother's hair, closes her eyes and kisses
her forehead.
She lifts up the phone and dials 999.
VICKY (CONT'D)
Ambulance please.
EXT. HOUSE -- LATER
PARAMEDICS are wheeling the body out of the house on a gurney
and loading it into an Ambulance.

7.
EXT. PARK -- CONTINUOUS
As before, the children are playing in the park.
The SMART COUPLE, vicky's adopted parents are walking through
the park.
They are watching Vicky who is lying on the grass staring up
at the sky.
HUSBAND
Vicky is so different from the
other children.
VICKY discovers a SNAIL beside her in the grass. She picks
it up and studies it on her hand.
WIFE
That's why we choose her.
VICKY
(to herself)
It's me who's doing the choosing.
Vicky stands up and throws the snail into the air.
VICKY (CONT'D)
Fly!
The snail disappears into the clouds.
